REPRESENTATIVE ANNA V. ESKAMANI ANNOUNCES NEW STATEWIDE VOTER REGISTRATION PLAN

Rep. Eskamani's Goal is to Register 25,000 New Voters in 2021

Orlando, FL - Today, Representative Anna V. Eskamani announced that her political committee, People Power for Florida, has registered as a 3rd Party Voter Registration organization -- and will begin registering and mobilizing young Floridians, voters of color, and working-class people to build long-term political power across the Sunshine State.

Eskamani says the key to success for Democrats in 2022 -- and beyond -- will be redefining Florida's electorate by engaging with communities that have long been ignored and overlooked by the political parties. She knows that building power doesn’t happen overnight or with last-minute bursts of funding; it must be sustained over time in a methodical way as seen in states like Georgia.

“We know that the only way to build a progressive future in Florida is by focusing on what we do best: community organizing, redefining the electorate, and calling out the status quo, while inspiring a multi-class, multi-racial, and multi-generational coalition to build power in neighborhoods and at the polls,” Representative Eskamani said.

This announcement comes days after Governor DeSantis proposed legislation that attempts to restrict voting by mail. Rep. Eskamani added, “We need to do everything we can to ensure that all Floridians have access to the ballot box -- rather than resorting to politically-motivated voter suppression like Governor DeSantis is clearly doing.”

People Power for Florida will focus on pocketbook issues and explain how elected officials' decisions at all levels impact the lives of everyday people. The political committee will use the same snowflake organizing model used by Eskamani's past two successful campaigns. While other voter registration groups attempt to register voters under their own organization with their own organizers, People Power for Florida plans to create 1,000 new volunteer leaders and organizations to register new voters at a much larger scale -- with a goal of 25,000 new voters registered by the end of 2021.

People Power for Florida will not accept contributions from any corporation and is relying on individual donors to fund its voter registration effort. The organization has already raised more than $50,000 in pledges, and Eskamani hopes to double that in the next seven days. “Our goal is to kick off People Power for Florida’s voter registration effort with $100,000 raised from Floridians who share our commitment to transformational change in Florida before the legislative session starts,” Representative Eskamani added.

The deadline for accepting contributions is March 1st due to the 2021 legislative session beginning on March 2nd. Folks can donate here, at this link.
