JOIN OUR TEAM!

We’re looking for organizers to join our team! Help build a better Florida with us.

  • Job Description: Summer + Fall Organizing Fellow

About Us: People Power for Florida is a political committee and an IRC 527 political organization that puts power into the People's hands. We promote civic engagement and increase voter participation by organizing volunteers and events across the state. Our multi-class, multi-racial, and multi-generational organizing model emphasizes on the ground voter registration and voter education to build power in our state.

About the Role: Organizing Fellows are at the heart of our work–and you will be in the community registering and engaging voters in this critical election year. Building power in Orlando will be possible through conversations with voters, organizing alongside community organizations and leaders, fostering partnerships, researching event opportunities, leading volunteers, recording voter registration data, and coming up with creative ideas. If you care deeply about defending democracy and putting power in the hands of the people–and thrive in a fast-paced, flexible environment—you will thrive in this role. This role reports to the Organizing Director and the Communications Director and will have the support of volunteers located in the Orlando area.

    Responsibilities:

Individual Canvassing - 60% of Time: Canvassing can involve many different creative methods of voter registration, but it often involves getting a clipboard and speaking to potential voters on a college campus. We expect additional canvassing at community events across Central Florida. Includes public speaking to classes, college/high school clubs, and other misc events to register folks to vote.

Leading Volunteer Voter Registration & GOTV Events - 20% of Time: This will involve planning and executing voter registration events that are promoted to volunteers. Requires logistics to be planned ahead of time and for frequent communication with volunteers. These volunteer events can be on campus, at community events, or at major events.

Recruiting Volunteers - 10% of Time: Recruit volunteers in and outside of the PPFF network by participating in weekly phonebanking and/or textbanking. Occasionally co-lead group trainings or lead one-on-one trainings with local volunteers.

Reporting - 10% of Time: Actively participate in a weekly team check-in and one-on-one with the Organizing Director. Report canvassing results on our website. Consistently contribute to the social media content. Occasionally participate in one-time projects or internal trainings.

Compensation: $15 per hour when the Organizing Fellow is doing administrative work + not actively collecting voter registration forms (ex. researching events, calling volunteers) and $18 per hour when actively canvassing and attempting to collect voter registration forms.

    Requirements:

    • Must be based in Orlando.

    • Must commit to working between 10 and 20 hours weekly.

    • At least half of your total hours (ex. 5-10 hours) must be committed to canvassing

    • Committing to attending 2-3 canvassing shifts per week

    • Commit to at least 1 hour of phonebanking a week

    • Attend a 1:1 check-in

    • Attend weekly team check-ins

    • Must commit to attending 2 phonebanks with the phonebanking coordinator per month

    • Must provide pictures and videos for social media on a weekly basis

Employment terms: June 1st -November 5th

Folks can define their own hours and create their distinct schedule, but note that some evenings and weekends will be expected.

    • Must be required to start in the month of June and commit to staying on until election day November 5th

    • Must have access to transportation and the ability to travel as needed.

    • Proficiency with Google Workspace tools is preferred.

    • Some past experience with community organizing or political activism is a plus.

    • The ability to speak another language other than English is a plus.

    Start Date: June 17, 2024
