PEOPLE POWER FOR FLORIDA ANNOUNCES OVER 1,000 VOTERS REGISTERED IN 2024

From college campuses to community events, Floridians are overwhelmingly energized ahead of this year’s election

[FL - April 29, 2024] Today, Rep. Anna V. Eskamani and People Power for Florida (PPFF) are excited to announce their voter registration and engagement totals for their spring semester’s statewide voter registration operations.

1,073 Floridians have registered to vote with People Power for Florida since the start of 2024 – 80% of which were from voters between the ages 16-30. Between college campuses and community events in Orlando, Tampa, Tallahassee, Gainesville, Brevard County, and South Florida–students and communities across the Sunshine State have proven eager to register for the first time, update their addresses, and re-request their mail ballots.

“The work of voter registration in Florida is not easy -- especially in a state like Florida,” added PPFF Founder and Representative Anna V. Eskamani. “With the recent passage of SB7050, we’ve had to reorganize our entire voter registration program, and are proud of what our team has been able to overcome to empower the next generations of leaders.”

Further, 1,106 registered voters pledged to vote this year and PPFF’s team called over 21,200 voters to help remind them to re-request their mail ballots. All of this work was accomplished by PPFF’s statewide team of college organizers–with home bases at FIU, UF, FSU, UCF, and USF – and over 100 grassroots volunteers.

“This feat is a testament to the power we’re building on college campuses and in communities across Florida with our organizers and volunteers,” said Juan Ardila, PPFF’s Organizing Director. “We’re seeing a heightened level of interest in voting, and we attribute that to the people-powered amendments like abortion and recreational marijuana. Our work to register and engage voters ahead of the November election is just getting started.”

Since 2021, People Power for Florida has registered nearly 10,000 people to vote. In 2024, People Power Florida has continued its mission to empower young voters–completing their seven-stop Organizing Bootcamp tour–aimed at training student power-building best practices–and maintained a commitment to leading a multi-generational, multi-class, multi-racial coalition of volunteers from every corner of the state.
