ANNOUNCING NINE NEW HIRES

Rep. Eskamani said, "the only way we’ll redefine Florida's electorate is through year-round registration efforts that focus on pocketbook issues and the power of each vote.”

[Orlando, FL - June 21, 2021] Today, Rep. Anna V. Eskamani announced that People Power For Florida has hired nine new team members for its statewide voter registration effort. The registration work will focus on making it as easy as possible for everyday Floridians to register voters in their communities. ”We are building an incredibly diverse and experienced team to connect with unregistered voters in every corner of Florida,” said Rep. Eskamani. “I am thrilled to be expanding our political work and to be training new leaders too!

This staff expansion comes after a recent announcement that veteran political attorney, Jason Blank, and longtime Democratic Treasurer, Shelby Green, joined the People Power for Florida team. Among the nine new hires is Raymer Maguire, alumni from Florida's medical marijuana and minimum wage campaigns, who joined as Operations Director. In addition, Gabrielle Alcantara-Anderson, who will serve as the Organizing Director, comes from UNITE HERE Local 362 with experience in both political and union organizing.

One of People Power for Florida's registration targets is potential voters aged 18-35 due to their lower registration and turnout rates. With that focus in mind, seven Organizing Fellows from colleges and universities across Florida have joined the team. The fellowship team, including Maya Anderson, Patrick Burnette, Aaron Facio-Cortes, Hadia Khanani, Catherine Le, Xavier Ortega, and Jaylah Washington, will use its collective experience in community and digital organizing to train volunteer leaders across the state. Members of this team have worked with the Florida Democratic Party, local Democratic races, legislative efforts, community groups and voter registration initiatives. They all bring unique experiences and deep commitments to building political power among people traditionally ignored by political parties and advocacy groups.

Organizing Director Gabrielle Alcantara-Anderson said, "people power is more than a name; our greatest strength is the volunteers who share our vision for a multi-class, multi-racial, and multi-generational coalition that leaves no one behind." Operations Director Raymer Maguire added, "Republican leaders have made it as hard as they can for everyday Floridians to register their peers to vote. We are providing the resources and training needed to make it as easy as possible for everyday people and local advocacy groups to register voters."

Last week, Rep. Eskamani announced the organization’s first two Virtual Voter Registration Trainings to be hosted at the end of June for volunteer leaders to attend.  These trainings will be available in three different languages and more than 150 people have already registered. Floridians can learn more and RSVP here at this link.

“We have raised over $130,000 from over 700 generous donors who share our vision for year-round organizing to register and mobilize Floridians to vote,” stated Rep. Eskamani. “Our committee isn't spending money on expensive consultants or marketing campaigns; we are investing in a team that shares our vision of transformational change that puts power into the hands of the People."

People Power for Florida was founded in 2017 with an initial contribution of $35 from then first-time candidate Anna V. Eskamani. More information can be found at www.PeoplePowerforFlorida.com.
