NATIONAL VOTER REG DAY: 11 EVENTS

Rep. Eskamani said, "we are giving volunteers all across Florida the tools they need to register voters in their own communities.”

[Orlando, FL - September 24, 2021] Today, Rep. Anna V. Eskamani announced that next week People Power For Florida will celebrate National Voter Registration Day with eleven events across Florida focused on registering new young voters and reactivating inactive Democrats. Rep. Eskamani said,“over 4 million eligible Floridians aren’t registered to vote, anything is possible in 2022 and 2024 if we redefine the electorate.”

People Power for Florida is hosting events on FSU, FAMU, UF, UCF, and USF campuses because historically Floridians aged 18 to 25 have been the least likely voters to participate in elections. Another focus is also on “inactive” Democrats who face being purged from the voter rolls. People Power for Florida is hosting a virtual phone bank on September 28th where volunteers across Florida will be able to call inactive voters in their county.

Organizing Director, Gabby Alcantara-Anderson, says“with the risk of COVID-19 in mind, some of our National Voter Registration Day celebrations will be virtual and focused on telling Floridians how easy it is to register to vote online at
peoplepowerforflorida.com/vote.”

Rep. Eskamani said,“Politico’s recent reporting on the shrinking gap between the number of registered Republicans and Democrats is the symptom of a problem that is many years in the making. Democrats cannot start organizing in communities in the months leading up to an election -- we need continuous year-round organizing focused on registering and mobilizing voters.”

Floridians who want to participate in National Voter Registration Day Celebrations - in-person or from their home - can sign up at
peoplepowerforflorida.com/events.

Yesterday, Representative Eskamani also announced a virtual event featuring a collection of organizations focused on voter registration in Florida.
