PEOPLE POWER FOR FLORIDA ANNOUNCES FOURTH ANNUAL DORM STORMS
The State’s Largest Dorm Move-In Voter Registration Operations at 6 Florida Campuses
[FLORIDA - July 15, 2024] Today, People Power for Florida is announcing the return of their annual fall semester voter registration “Dorm Storms” ahead of the August and November elections.
Dorm Storms—large-scale voter registration drives held during college students' pivotal move-in week—have been hosted by People Power for Florida (PPFF) since its inception in 2021. PPFF will help students register to vote for the first time, update their voter registration to their new dorm addresses, and have powerful conversations about what’s on the ballot in 2024.
The events will be hosted between August 13th and August 24th at: Florida Atlantic University (FAU), The University of Florida (UF), The University of Central Florida (UCF), The University of South Florida (USF), Florida International University (FIU), and Florida State University (FSU).
“Dorm Storms are the perfect opportunity to reach students where they’re at when they need it most,” said Juan Ardila, PPFF’s Organizing Director. “Updating their voter registration might not be top of mind during move-ins, but we’re there to help guide them through the process of becoming a Florida voter.”
This week of events is just the start of People Power for Florida’s focus on campus engagement during the fall semester at colleges and universities across the Sunshine State. With a team of 6 organizers at XYZ universities, PPFF will have weekly canvassing on these campuses to engage voters.
“As someone who updated her voter registration on a college campus, I know how important it is for us to bring Democracy directly to our students,” added Representative Eskamani. “We’re excited to kick off this semester strong!”
Since 2021, People Power for Florida has registered nearly 10,000 people to vote. In 2024, People Power Florida has continued its mission to empower young voters, completing its inaugural seven-stop Organizing Bootcamp tour to train students in power-building and best practices. It has also maintained a commitment to leading a multi-generational, multi-class, multi-racial coalition of volunteers from every corner of the state.
