PEOPLE POWER FOR FLORIDA AND YES ON 4 ANNOUNCE ORGANIZING BOOTCAMPS

This September, students across the state at five universities will learn how to organize and mobilize their peers to vote to protect their reproductive freedoms and limit government interference

[FLORIDA - August 19th, 2024] People Power for Florida (PPFF) is announcing their partnership with Floridians Protecting Freedom (Yes on 4) to host five youth-centered Organizing Bootcamps across the state in the month of September ahead of the 2024 Election.

The bootcamps will feature curriculum about leadership and organizing best practices in addition to messaging and outreach material related to mobilizing folks to vote for Amendment 4–the ballot initiative that will end Florida’s extreme abortion ban and get government out of our exam rooms and medical decisions–at the following campuses:

  • University of South Florida (USF) - September 7th

  • Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) - September 14th

  • Florida State University (FSU) - September 15th

  • University of Central Florida (UCF) - September 21st

  • Florida International University (FIU) - September 28th

Throughout 2023 and 2024, PPFF hosted Organizing Bootcamps on seven college campuses from Jacksonville to Tampa and Gainesville to Miami. A total of just over 275 students are now trained and connected with the alumni network students turned campus and community organizers that are engaged and ready to take action. In the upcoming fall semester, PPFF and Yes on 4 hope to replicate this energy and expand this existing base of students along with inviting back existing students and campus partners.

In 2023, People Power for Florida collected 2% of the statewide volunteer total of petitions to get Amendment 4 on the ballot at college campuses and in communities across the state; in addition to registering over 1,000 people to vote. In 2024, People Power for Florida continued its mission to empower young pro-choice voters, completing its inaugural seven-stop Organizing Bootcamp tour to train students in power-building and best practices–and to talk about the importance of critical topics on the ballot like reproductive freedoms. PPFF has also maintained a commitment to leading a multi-generational, multi-class, multi-racial coalition of volunteers from every corner of the state connecting Floridians with their right to vote, too.
