The Largest Statewide Push to Register Students to Vote Concludes with Record Totals

[FLORIDA - August 27, 2024] People Power for Florida is announcing the results of their 2024 voter registration Dorm Storms hosted in collaboration with Youth Action Fund.

Dorm Storms—large-scale voter registration drives held during college students' pivotal move-in week—have been hosted by People Power for Florida (PPFF) since its inception in 2021. Across 8 public universities,  People Power for Florida registered 728 students to vote or update their addresses–the highest of any annual Dorm Storm total to date.

The Dorm Storms were be hosted between August 14th and August 24th at the following campuses:

  • Florida Atlantic University

  • University of Florida

  • University of Central Florida

  • University of North Florida

  • Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University

  • University of South Florida

  • Florida State University

  • Florida International University

Between each of these campuses, People Power for Florida and Youth Action Fund recruited 147 volunteers from student-led clubs and community organizations to canvas new students as they moved into their dorms for the Fall semester.

“The stakes of this election could not be higher, and the path to taking back the state of Florida runs right through youth and first-time voters. The incredible success of the Dorm Storms is indicative of the growing momentum to enact progressive change, powered by young people.” said Cameron Driggers, Executive Director of Youth Action Fund.

“As someone who started her advocacy journey at UCF, I am so proud of the incredible impact People Power For Florida continues to have on our college campuses. This is only the beginning and I feel confident we will see strong youth engagement throughout this semester, election cycle, and beyond.”

Since 2021, People Power for Florida has registered nearly 10,000 people to vote. In 2024, People Power Florida has continued its mission to empower young voters, completing its inaugural seven-stop Organizing Bootcamp tour to train students in power-building and best practices. It has also maintained a commitment to leading a multi-generational, multi-class, multi-racial coalition of volunteers from every corner of the state.

Youth Action Fund is a Gen-Z led 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to breaking down barriers to activism by providing resources to young Floridians as they lead issue-based campaigns in their communities. Founded in October 2023, YAF has already sponsored over sixty youth-led community organizing projects across the state. In 2024, YAF’s innovative programs to engage youth in the civic process have already resulted in over 1,600 unique voter registrations and pre registrations.
